A 16-year-old girl has been killed at a notorious accident spot near Par docks. Her moped was in collision with a Ford Ka, driven by a 19-year-old girl, opposite the South West Waterworks site, close to the train bridge underpass on the A3082 Par Moor road. The accident happened at approximately 4.30pm on Monday afternoon. Police closed the road while emergency services attended the scene. The rider of the moped, named as Roseanne Allen, was declared dead at the scene, and the road remained closed for several hours as accident investigation officials carried out their work.
Ms Allen is believed to live in Fowey. A Highways Agency official who attended the crash scene spoke of his horror: "I've attended numerous accidents over the years, including the Castle-an-Dinas tragedy where five died. This was particularly sad because not only have I attended other fatal road crashes at this exact same spot, but because of the young ages of the motorists involved.
"I received the call to attend at 5pm last night. When I got here, there was a blue Ford Ka on its side in the boggy ground under a small cluster of trees. The moped was situated approximately 15 yards or so further back. It was clearly a very serious accident and as a result of the fatal outcome it was decided to close the road. We made sure that the road was safe before re-opening. It is very sad and isn't a part of the job that I enjoy at all."
Devon and Cornwall Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them.
