New car park planned

New car park plannedWorries regarding impending huge increases in council parking prices in St Austell have been alleviated with the opening of a new low cost parking centre..
St Austell football club are allowing spaces at their Poltair Park ground to open to the public during the week, with a full days parking costing just £1.50 and three hours for just 70p.
Premier Parking have taken control of the site for an initial period of six months and, if the scheme proves successful, will hope to secure a long term deal to patrol the site, which is looked after on a hourly basis and is soon to be controlled by CCTV.
St Austell football club’s president Trevor Ternouth told the Voice: “We’re delighted to help with St Austell’s parking problems. We’ve signed a sixth month contract with the firm and if it is a success they will look to control the situation for an extended period.
“They are going to assess the situation over the next sixth months.
“It is going to be controlled by Premier Parking and they’re going to be looking after the site.
“They came to us with the idea and we were delighted to be able to help ease the parking fears in the town.”
The club are to gain financial revenue from the venture with a small cut coming from the parking and they are hoping that this will help fund the club, in their bid to have floodlights installed.
Ternouth also hopes that the parking will help ease congestion on built-up Tregonissey Road.
He added: “The parking should help ease congestion on Tregonissey Road, which is always congested and will also help with the parking for both Poltair school and for the college.”
The parking, which is within walking distance from the town centre, will be available between 7.30am and 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, with the club using the ground for games at the weekend.
