Police target beach vandals

Police target beach vandalsPOLICE are taking action to stop late night revellers using Porthpean Beach in St Austell for unruly late night parties causing noise, nuisance and dangerous litter.
Local residents have made complaints about the party-goers and have also reported that trees have been damaged and items have been stolen from their gardens and subsequently burnt on bonfires.
Smashed bottles, burnt remains and other dangerous litter have been left strewn across the beach.
PC  Jay Dorman, the local Police Officer said: “This sort of behaviour is totally unacceptable and poses a real danger to unsuspecting law abiding members of the public and their children.  Together with St Austell Town Council and local residents we are taking action to apprehend the offenders and prevent this from happening.  If anyone has any helpful information about these incidents please ring me on 08452 77744.”
Local residents have always taken a pride in the area, and have voluntarily litter picked the beach to keep it in good condition for visitors, but recently the extent of the litter has become more than they are able to cope with.
Inspector Gard from St Austell police said: “Whilst we do not wish to spoil peoples enjoyment and fun, some of the behaviour in recent weeks has been totally unacceptable. I would urge anyone using the area to be considerate towards the residents in Porthpean and Duporth and refrain from engaging in criminal activity and anti-social behaviour.
“We will be stepping up patrols over the coming weeks and taking positive action where necessary.”
