A Cornwall Councillor will be visiting Mevagissey next month to discuss parking issues with a group of frustrated residents.Graeme Hicks, Cabinet Member for Transportation and Highways, will visit the village on July 5 and meet with a residents parking forum to gain a better understanding of their problems.
Currently residents with no garage or parking space on their property have to pay in a car park or leave their cars on the outer part of the village and walk, particularly difficult for people with children and the elderly.
The resident’s parking forum was set up by solicitor and Mevagissey resident, Pinky Baria, to find a solution to their parking problems.
Miss Baria said: “The council should make provision for local residents at an affordable price and most of us would be quite happy to pay for an annual parking permit, as do residents in adjoining Pentewan.
"On my street there is a small council owned short stay car park for 11 cars. In the low season it is virtually empty yet I cannot park there unless I pay the usual charges. It seems to be a complete waste of a space that could be used and bring in revenue for the council all year round.
"Cllr Hicks will be coming to our village on July 5 and we are really looking forward to meeting him. We want him to see the difficulties we have every day due to lack of parking."
