“It was only 1-0 but it could have been a lot more.
“It’s good to be in the next round of the competition and it’s going to be tough whoever we play in the next round. It’ll be nice to get a home draw and perhaps we can move it forward to a Friday night.”

Sticker progress to last four
STICKER have booked their place in the last four of the Rowett Insurance league cup after a 5-0 victory at home to last season’s beaten finalists St Teath. After defeat at home to Saltash United and a draw with local rivals Probus, Sticker boss Phil Dingle would be happy to see his side make a welcome return to winning ways, progressing into the semi-finals of the league cup competition a bonus.
After the game Dingle spoke to the Voice and said: “I’m pleased to get back to winnings ways.
“I felt that without setting the world alight, we controlled the game from start to finish. The three quick goals at the start of the game were a good platform for us to build on.”
The first goal came for the unlikeliest of sources. Full-back Daniel Meens, who previously had only scored one goal in six seasons with the club played a quick one-two with flank partner Andrew Butler and his attempted cross took a big deflection off the visiting defender before looping over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

Saints battle for top of the table
St Austell secured their fifth bonus point victory in seven matches in a thrilling top of the table clash with previously unbeaten Torquay Athletic. An exciting game, played out in front of a large crowd at sun kissed Tregorrick Park, was in the balance until the last ten minutes of the game when the Saints’ finally saw off the Tics with two superb late tries.
Early pressure from the Saints saw a catch drive from a line out driven a full 10 metres before prop Hugh Noott appeared to have scored. Referee Richard Pryor adjudged that Noott had been held up but from the resulting 5m scrum it was clear that Saints had the edge in the tight.
Torquay just survived but their line was under severe pressure and it was dogged defence that was keeping Saints at bay until the 17th minute when, after excellent work by the Saints’ pack, centre James Earp fed Ben Chenoweth coming in off his wing. Chenoweth ripped through the Tics back line to finish under the posts leaving scrum-half Matthew Shepherd the simple task of converting the try.

Mixed week for Lillywhites
IT’S BEEN a mixed week for St Austell as they suffered a heavy home defeat and finally recorded their first win of the season this weekend.Last Tuesday the Lillywhites hosted title hopefuls Bodmin Town in front of a large crowd at Poltair Park.
Despite producing a spirited performance as they fought with Bodmin for every inch they were on the wrong end of a 4-1 defeat against Darren Gilbert’s side.
Gilbert’s summer signing Adam Carter, who appeared for St Austell as a youngster used the game to get off the mark for his new club. The former Torpoint man who scored 52 goals for Athletic last season grabbed a hat-trick as last year’s title runners-up proved too clinical for the St Austell.
They did however follow that up with an impressive 6-1 win over the Royal Marines on Saturday.
