Mewton casts eye over St Blazey
Rumours are doing the rounds that former St Blazey manager Trevor Mewton could be set for a sensational return to the club after being heavily involved in running the side's 1-0 loss to Buckland. The club's legendary manager took charge alongside current assistant manager Phil Lafferty for the green and blacks’ game this weekend, with player-manager Glynn Hooper away with work.
Mewton has been linked with a number of jobs since leaving Penzance last summer, which included a role at local rivals St Austell, his home town club Newquay and Wadebridge Town.
Mewton had an illustrious career in charge at Blaise Park and won an incredible seven South western league championships in ten years, having won four consecutive titles between 2000 and 2005.
Since leaving the club in 2007, Mewton has held roles at Truro City and at Penlee Park, whilst also helping out Bodmin Town this pre-season.

Saints zero in on promotion
ST AUSTELL’S director of rugby Steve Murley is not counting his chickens just yet, as the Saints continue to chase down their second promotion in three seasons.Following their 2009 promotion to the Cornwall and Devon league the Saints have only lost a handful of games and if they can continue their current form then they will be in pole position to gain the second promotion spot to guide them back into western counties west.
Speaking after the club's 24-0 win over Honiton at the weekend, Murley said: “Saturday was a difficult game with a strong wind blowing straight down the field. Strangely both sides played better in my view against the wind and neither side used the elements as well as they could have.

Emphatic win for St Austell
A hard hitting first half paved the way for the saints to demonstrate the cohesion forming within the team as they kept up their promotion push with an emphatic 61-17 win over Withycombe, writes Phill Raddenbury. The saints came into this match from a resounding win in Falmouth and started as if they were on fire, in the second minute centre Sam Rhodes took it on himself to outpace the Withycombe back line and score out wide.
Withycombe restarted strongly but attacks were being thwarted by a solid home defence.
In the 11th minute scrum-half Matt Shepherd converted a very well struck penalty and the game seemed to stay at 8-0 for an age, all the play seemed to be in the midfield until Wing Craig Taylor danced his way through tackles to score in the 29th minute.

Olympic gold medallist back in St Austell
It was a quiet return to town for arguably Cornwall's greatest ever sporting hero last week. With his boyish good looks, easy charm and old school manners, it was a shoe-in for Olympic Gold medallist and double world champion Ed Coode MBE to forge a career as a TV pundit appearing alongside his former rowing team mates Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pinsent and live the easy life in the public eye.
The unassuming Mr Coode is easily the greatest sportsman ever to come from the St Austell area, and that's a fact which sits slightly uneasily for this sporting hero who has shared the world stage with the very greatest rowers this country has ever seen, culminating in his epic battle in the coxless fours against world champions Canada in Athens.
However, it was the call of the family business that finally swung it for Ed to put the hysteria and press attention of the 2004 Olympic Games behind him. He decided to regroup and train as a solicitor to make him the eighth generation of the legal dynasty to work for the family firm in St Austell.
