Sticker run breaks records

A PIECE of Cornish running history was made on Saturday as St Austell running club became the first ever Cornish club to have 100 members take part in a grand prix event.
In all 113 members managed to take part and finish the grueling five mile course as the event had a record entry of 520, with 499 finishers.
A delighted vice-chairman and race organiser Paul Bullock summed up the mood of the St Austell running club and said: "What a fantastic achievement to have 113 finish and create a Cornish record club entry as the first to reach 100."

Mass exodus from Lillywhites

JUST over a month after the end of the season five of St Austell's Cornwall senior cup winning squad have decided to jump ship and join local rivals St Blazey.
Two weeks ago the Voice told how Lillywhites striker Daniel Nancarrow was set to become Glynn Hooper's first signing since his arrival as manager and now Nancarrow has been joined by Ben Douglas, Jay Isbell, Josh Higman and Ollie Brokenshire at Blaise Park.
Hooper hasn't stopped there though and has signed five further players to create a fiercely competitive squad ahead of the new season.

League return for cup winners

ST DENNIS are back in the East Cornwall premier league as the league will be at a full complement of 32 teams for the 2009-10 campaign, after three new clubs have been elected, writes Gareth Rowett.
In a special meeting held every season prior to the League AGM, Edgcumbe, St Dennis and Millbrook were chosen for the coming term to join the league's first division.
Previous members and twice unbeaten league champions of the league, St Dennis pulled out after just eight games in 2006, but have since re-grouped and won the Westinsure Cornwall junior cup for the first time in their history last season.

Nancarrow club switch

ST BLAZEY are expected to complete the formalities of signing  senior cup winning striker Dan Nancarrow from local rivals St Austell, writes Gareth Rowett.
Nancarrow, pictured, looks set to become manager Glynn Hooper's first signing since succeeding Bobby Oaten at Blaise Park just last week.
The forward should returns to the green and blacks for a fourth spell with the club after just one season back at St Austell literally days after the transfer window re-opened on June 1.

Hooper takes on St Blazey

After months of speculation one of Cornwall's most decorated players Glynn Hooper has returned to the club where he won 17 major trophies, being named the new manager of St Blazey.
Hooper, now 37, the club's all-time leading goalscorer was part of the green and blacks side managed by Trevor Mewton that won the South Western league seven times in nine seasons, plus three league, three senior and four charity cups and he has replaced Bobby Oaten who parted ways with the club just this past week.

St Austell beat Callington

ST AUSTELL are up to fourth in the Jolly's Cornwall premier league after a close fought two-wicket victory over Callington.
Following last weekend's success away at reigning champions St Just Sean Hooper's side made it back-to-back victories with a win over the newly promoted side, who currently sit at the bottom of the table.

Last gasp victory for juniors

It's the stuff dreams are made of for any neutral spectator. You just couldn't write a script better for any cup final on any day.

Both sides go close to winning the game with late chances but then the winning team, who in this case are St Austell under-18s grab a goal in extra-time and manage to hold off St Tudy's advances and win 4-3 after-extra-time to claim the PM Bartlett trophy.

Lillywhites face match probe

St Austell could be set for a hefty fine and possible point deduction after their game away at Callington was abandoned.
63 minutes of the game had been played when referee Dave Green (pictured) called the game to a halt having sent both St Austell skipper Lee Whetter and assistant manager Steve Burt off with the Lillywhites 1-0 down and facing a penalty.

St Dennis win Cup

LEE Rickard was the star of the show as he hit four goals as St Dennis won their first ever Cornwall junior cup defeating Falmouth Athletic 5-2 in the final replay.
For what the first game lacked in excitement the replay certainly made up for it nine days later with the Saints coming out on top in a seven-goal thriller.

Western wins vets cup

THE beer was certainly flowing at the Western Inn this weekend as the pub's veterans side fought from behind to defeat ten-man Hayle Vintage Brew 2-1 to win the Cornwall veterans league cup.
Goals from Glyn Hooper and Andy Parr allowed for the St Austell-based side to cancel out Mark Rapsey's first half opener.
