ST DENNIS are back in the East Cornwall premier league as the league will be at a full complement of 32 teams for the 2009-10 campaign, after three new clubs have been elected, writes Gareth Rowett.
In a special meeting held every season prior to the League AGM, Edgcumbe, St Dennis and Millbrook were chosen for the coming term to join the league's first division.
Previous members and twice unbeaten league champions of the league, St Dennis pulled out after just eight games in 2006, but have since re-grouped and won the Westinsure Cornwall junior cup for the first time in their history last season.
Former player and manager of the club Kelvin Hunkin led the tributes on a local football forum and said: "Fantastic news that St Dennis are returning to East cornwall football.
"Excellent club who have had a small number of hardworking individuals working tirelessly to keep the club going.
"They must be really proud that their efforts have enabled Dave Rickard to put together a side that justifies senior status.
"I hope they do really well and the village provides them with the support they need to continue up the leagues."
The meeting also agreed that instead of being 2.30 pm all season, kick-off times will be 3.00 pm in the autumn and 2.30 pm in the winter months, while an idea to regionalise the league was also thrown out.
