An historic change looks set for the counties football association, who look set to up roots and move to Bodmin from St Austell.
The football association has been based in the town since as long as most of the counties board can remember and moved to their High Cross Street base back in 1997.
New vice-chairman Dave Bray confirmed that the CCFA are hoping to move into their new site at Callywith Gate, Bodmin within the next six weeks.
“It’s an historic change for cornish football, as the secretary up until now has also been based in St Austell,” Bray told the Voice.
It’s not the only change that has been made to the CCFA, who have seen long-standing county official Tristan Scott stand down after 60 years service.
Mr Scott has retired as Vice-Chairman of Cornwall Football Association at this year’s annual general meeting with David Bray will be taking over his role.
Tristan started his involvement with football playing for St Austell Grammar School and Cornwall County Air Training Corps. He went on to be Chairman of Bugle FC.
Tristan has been part of the Cornwall FA’s Council since 1969. “During my time in football”, he said,” I have been privileged to be Chairman of the South Western League (now the South West Peninsula League) for 22 years and President for 5 years.
I am currently joint president of the league, a role I will continue to do.
“I have to say my best moment was being elected Chairman of Cornwall County FA. I went on to serve three terms in that position in the days when it was elected annually.”
He says the biggest changes to football he has seen are having substitutes and the increase in verbal abuse, “When I played, you played with just 11 players. If someone was injured you carried on with fewer players.
“There’s far more abuse by players these days to officials. In my time there were hardly any red or yellow card offences. It’s the small percentage of players now who create the problems. I hope that up and coming footballers will appreciate what The FA are trying with the Respect programme.”
Tristan is replaced as Vice-Chairman by David Bray, also from St Austell, who is the current County Youth Secretary and will continue in this role as well as take on the duties of Vice-Chairman. He said, “I have been involved with the county for many years. I am very honoured to be able to extend my role with the position of Vice-Chairman which will allow me to get to know more clubs and others involved with football in the county in addition to the youth side of the job.”
Tristan will be staying on as a Cornwall FA Council member for the St Austell area.
