Shock death of bowls legend

News Archive > Sport > Shock death of bowls legend

Gareth Rowett27/08/2009

BOWLS in Stenalees suffered a great loss after the sad passing of former England international and double national championship winner Richard Bray.
Richard, a popular 45-year-old from Stenalees, died after undergoing a major emergency operation at Harefield Hospital.
News of Richard’s death broke at Worthing on Friday as many of his Cornwall county colleagues were gathering at the Beach House Park greens ahead of the Middleton Cup finals, which Cornwall went on to win for the first time, beating Yorkshire 128-103.
Bray won the National Singles title in 1988, and added the British Isles singles title in 1989.
He also skipped a Stenalees quartet to the national fours title in 2003, and then the British Isles fours title in 2004, the year that he also made his England debut.
