ST AUSTELL'S teenage hammer throwing sensation Jay Hill is heading to Russia to compete in the European Under 20 club championships.
Alongside team mate Jordan Henwood, the Newquay and Par duo are competing under their second claim club Enfield and Haringey.
Jay,18, recently won the South of England Inter Counties championships and came third in the England Nationals is relishing the opportunity to compete on the big stage and is hopeful of picking up a medal.
Tipped by many sporting pundits to become part of the England squad for the London Olympic games in 2010. Like former Newquay and Par athlete Jemma Simpson, Jay has enjoyed putting Cornwall on the international athletics map. “It’s an honour to be recognised by your peers in a sport that doesn’t receive massive publicity. I would like to think that I can do well in Moscow, but realise that this is a big step up in class with a lot of athletes that regularly compete against world ranking opposition.” he said.
Likewise, Jordan has recently increased his personal best and is also expecting a great competition.
Both athletes have been sponsored by the Lord Lieutenant's Fund for sport and are still looking for sponsorship for the 2010 season.
