Clubs and players face FA

News Archive > Sport > Clubs and players face FA

Gareth Rowett28/10/2009

Clubs and players face FABOTH St Austell and Newquay, as well as Lee Whetter and Ben Douglas will face misconduct charges from the Cornwall county football association, after they received referee Mark Oldaker’s report on the incident which occurred after St Austell’s 3-2 loss to Newquay.
In a week that both Robbie Savage and Craig Bellamy have been prompted to talk about the abuse that they receive from fans on and off the field, both Whetter and Douglas have been charged by the Cornwall FA after Whetter had left the field of play to confront Newquay fan Mark ‘The Judge’ Charles.
This led to a mass melee between the two sides and following the incidents Cornwall FA secretary Barry Cudmore said: “After considering reports received concerning the above match AFC St Austell players Lee Whetter and Ben Douglas have been charged with Misconduct and have 14 days to respond.
“Due to the serious nature of the alleged offences both players have been suspended with immediate effect.
“Both Clubs have been charged with Misconduct and also have 14 days to respond.
“A further statement will be issued following a Disciplinary Hearing which will take place after responses are received.”
South West peninsula league secretary Phil Hiscox added: “The board of the SW Peninsula League are aware of the alleged misconduct at the above match and the media coverage of the incident.
“We deplore in the strongest terms all use of violence and all those that by deed or action seek to bring football in general and the league in particular into disrepute.”
