Floodlight plan for Poltair Park

Floodlight plan for Poltair ParkST AUSTELL football club have made their next step towards promotion into the premier division of the Peninusla league after officially applying to install floodlights at the current Poltair Park ground, writes Gareth Rowett.
Vice-chairman Darryl Stamp confirmed to the Voice that the club had applied for new floodlights, which is a stipulation in the league rules for the club to make the step up into the premier division.
He told the Voice: “We aim to progress, if we win the League, to the Premier Division of the Peninsula League.
“To enable us to make this step, we have to have plans submitted to Cornwall Council, which we have recently done, for floodlights. This is a stipulation, within the league rules.
“We have sought professional help for the type of floodlights, and they have been designed to minimise light spillage and pollution in the area. The lights will comprise of six columns at 16m height, three each side of the ground.”
The club have also advised residents of nearby Poltair Road that the lights, which should take ten weeks to install, when it place will be used between October and March for evening matches and some Saturday afternoons.
The Lillywhites currently riding high in division one west are also seeking Planning Permission for ball stop netting to a height of 5m and length of 40m each side of the goals to help prevent loose balls being kicked over into Poltair Road and the old College site.
Stamp went on to add: “The next major undertaking will be removing the grandstand roof and walls which are in a terrible state of repair.
“It is also full of asbestos manufacture and we will have it replaced with steel cladding.
“This should take place during the ‘closed season’. When this is complete, we will refurbish the existing changing facilities to compliment the new shower system we had installed for the beginning of this season.
“The club hope that the Community will be behind this application and give St Austell a football club that the Town can be proud of and could play in the same league as St Blazey and Bodmin, who already have floodlights in place.”
The club needs to have at least planning permission in place in time of promotion into the premier league and it must be completed within the first two seasons.
