funds for their coming season and to also make the awards to their junior youth sections in a series of presentations across the day.
These presentation photos will feature in next week’s edition and, in addition to the normal ones which were awarded to the team members, there were a few surprise ones including one presented to Jim Hilton and Graham Rickard for their commitment to youth football over many years.
The evening saw many stay on to watch the England match in the club room with a raffle which had raised many hundreds of pounds seeing the top prize of a surf board being won (in his absence) by NewquayVoice sports editor Phil Bunt.
Phil, who was rung that evening by Mark ‘The Judge’ Charles to let him know the news said “It’s a long time since I tried to surf and I wasn’t very good then.
“I’ll take some advice on what the board is worth and see whether or not it might be able to be used to raise some money for Newquay Towan Blystra Lions Club of which I am a member.
“If not then I may just have to take a few lessons!” he joked.
Overall the complete day is believed to have raised well in excess of a thousand pounds and with the ever rising costs associated with running a football club, even at the relatively lowly level evident in the county, this will be able to be used to supplement the coffers.
Overall the day was a great success with everyone enjoying the activities put on.
Barry Bennett from the club said “Credit must go to everyone who put in so much effort to make the day a memorable one.”
